Workshop for China-Vietnam Exchange of Experience on Marine Environment and Ecosystem in Beibu Gulf Successfully Held Online

On September 14th, 2021, the Third Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources (TIO) and the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands (VASI) jointly held an online workshop to exchange of experience on marine environment and ecosystem in Beibu Gulf. Chen Bin, Deputy Director General of the TIO, and Nguyen Que Lam, Deputy Director General of the VASI, led the delegations to participate in the event and gave a speech respectively.

Under the framework of the Cooperative Research Agreement on Integrated Management of Marine and Island Environment in Beibu Gulf signed by the former State Oceanic Administration of China and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam in 2013, the workshop is to strengthen the communication and exchange of project implementation and experience between the two sides, and to promote substantive progress and achievements in future cooperation.

The workshop was alternately hosted by Zhang Jiwei, Deputy Director of the Marine Environmental Management and Sustainable Development Research Center of TIO, and Le Anh Thang, Executive Deputy Director of the Northern Center for Planning and Investigation of Marine Resources – Environment (CPIM) of VASI. Officials and scientists from China and Vietnam had an in-depth exchange on the research progress of cooperation since 2016, covering assessment and control of marine environmental pollution in Beibu Gulf, database construction and information sharing, marine environmental management and spatial planning, etc.

This workshop is the first meeting between the two sides since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, which is conducive to enhancing understanding of the specific enablement needs, deepening the exchange of marine science and technology between scientists of the two countries, and promoting China-Vietnam practical cooperation in marine affairs.
